Dictionary Day: For the Love of Words

The American Studies group of high school students from Gornjogradska gimnazija participated in a language workshop dedicated to Noah Webster, and the importance and power of words.

Using online resources, the students explored and learned about Noah Webster's life and achievements. They could experience that the true nature of words and language could be understood and put to test in a creative way as presented in Andrew Clements' story about Frindle. As presented in the workshop, new technology, games, crossword puzzles and reading offer innovative and creative pathways to building word power. The students made their own list of synonyms or tried their hand at making or defining new words.
