Discovering Silicon Valley: Lessons from Stanford University to Startups in Palo Alto and San Francisco

The lecture will cover the invaluable experiences gained during a research stay at Stanford University. From its iconic Main Quad to cutting-edge research centers, the presentation will showcase Stanford's academic and architectural landscape. Participants will gain insights into the rich history of the campus, founded in 1885.
In addition to exploring the campus, the lecture will provide a glimpse into life in the Bay Area. Attendees will discover how the unique blend of academia and the entrepreneurial spirit of Silicon Valley has contributed to groundbreaking advancements in AI technology. Beyond the campus, a tour around the major highlights of Palo Alto and San Francisco is planned. From historic landmarks to tech hubs, whether strolling through the Stanford Arboretum or exploring the neighborhoods of San Francisco, the presentation will showcase the best of this tech-savvy region.

Anja Stevic, Ph.D. is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Communication at the University of Vienna. She studied journalism, communication science and political science at the University of Zagreb, the University of Vienna and the University of Warsaw. She was a visiting scholar at Stanford University in 2023. Her research focuses on social media and well-being, media psychology and mobile communication.
