Thanksgiving in Velika Gorica

Ms. Carlee Shults, English Teaching Assistant, gave a presentation on traditions and symbols of Thanksgiving. Carlee showed what Americans eat, watch and do on Thanksgiving Day. She shared her experience of celebrating Thanksgiving back home in the United States and how she is going to celebrate Thanksgiving with her friends in Zagreb. Following the presentation, the students took part in a workshop by making a Thanksgiving craft. Carlee demonstrated how to make a Thanksgiving pumpkin with colored strips of paper. The students got down to making their own pumpkins and writing down on the colored strips of paper what they are thankful for. After they had created wonderful paper pumpkins, they shared their thoughts with each other.

Here are some children's thoughts on what to be thankful for:

I am thankful for my family and friends.

I am thankful for every day.

I am thankful for being smart.

I am thankful for nature.

I am thankful for food.

The presentation and workshop took part in the school library. The school librarians and the English teacher Sanja Božonović acted as hosts to the American Corner. The American Corner coordinator Ms. Marina Lončar and the U.S. Embassy employees Ms. Maca Bahlen and Ms. Saša Gorjanec are thankful to the students, librarians and teachers for a great Thanksgiving celebration at their school.
